Content Blocks

Content Blocks are a container object for actual content. A Content Block consists of one or multiple Entry Masks and the content itself.

Content Blocks can be used in two ways, either as Embedded Content Blocks or as Independent Content Blocks.

Embedded Content Blocks

Embedded Content Blocks are used for content that is used on one Page only and that won't be repurposed for dynamic content assignment.

Accordingly, embedded Content Blocks are linked to a specific Page. They do not have an approval workflow of their own, but are approved, published, and versioned along with the Page they are assigned to.

Independent Content Blocks

Independent Content Blocks are usually used for content that is to be displayed on more than one Page. This way, changes to the content of such a Content Block automatically apply to all Pages that the respective Content Block is assigned to. You can use Content Blocks across different yeager Sites.

Independent Content Blocks are managed through a dedicated administration panel and do have their own approval and publishing functionality, independent from the approval workflows of the Pages they are assigned to.

Content Blocks do not necessarily have to be linked manually to Pages: By making use of a dedicated yeager Extension they can be assigned dynamically by whatever parameters necessary.

Properties

By default a Content Block consists of the following properties:

Name

Specifies the name of the object

Name in URL Specifies how the Content Block is called in the URL, e.g. http://www.yourdomain.com/site/page/:cblock_url-name

Description

An optional description, often used for SEO purposes

Additional custom properties can be added via the system settings panel.

Extendability

By making use of Content Block Extensions custom code can get executed whenever an event is fired on a Content Block. Content Block Extensions also allow adding of custom UI elements to yeager's Content Block administration panel.

Content Block list Extensions allow you to create custom lists/tables displaying Content Blocks in yeager's UI.
